If you employ people, you’ll soon have new duties to help them save for retirement. The new Workplace Pensions & Automatic Enrolment legislation is being rolled out to all employers starting with the largest ones first and the responsibility for complying rests firmly with the employer.

It’s all part of workplace pension reform, it means that as an employer you will need to automatically enrol certain members of your workforce into a pension scheme, and you’ll need to make a contribution towards it.

Time is of the essence, all employers will need to have a workplace pension scheme in place by the end of 2017. If you have more than one employee it is essential that you have checked your ‘staging date’ by which time your scheme should be in place and registered with The Pensions Regulator. You may find that your company has much less time than you realise. It’s a difficult and time consuming process, with those who leave it to the last moment sure to fall foul of the considerable fines attached to non-compliance.
